Swim & Dive News 4/27

Hi Caimans!
Can you believe we are in the home stretch of our swim/dive season?  It really did fly by and I am so proud of all of you for your PRs and season best times so far.  I can’t wait for these next two weeks!  We are going to have some fast swims!  Our word(s) for the week is Team Spirit!  Cheering for your teammates during practice as well as in meets is essential for our team morale and our self-efficacy. If you are not competing or warming up/down for your race, you should be at the end of the lanes cheering for our Caimans.  As our tradition has it (4 years and running), we will be making posters for each other.  I will give you a name and you will create a poster for that person and bring it to league prelims next Friday.  Get a poster from dollar tree or wherever and use stickers, drawings, pictures, glitter, etc!  Let’s bring on this team spirit and really make these posters shine!  If you have not received the name of your person, please email me or ask on the group me (faster) and I can tell you who you have. (it’s a surprise until that day, by the way).   Please do not forget to do this as someone else is making one for you too! Please pay attention to some very important details in the dates and times and locations for the next two weeks:
This is taper week- what is taper?  Tapering is gradually reducing the distance but with intensity and speed! We are keeping our energy for the big day- so no running, roller skating, hiking, playing tag, etc.  Preserve your energy for the big day!!!!  Do those activities after leagues and CIF/States.  The whole point is not just to get out of practice early…we get out early to repair any muscle fatigue and maximize power and speed for peak performance.
Monday 4/27 swim practice 3:30-5:30 pm- no weight room
Tuesday 4/28-swim practice 3:30-5:00 pm
Wednesday 4/29 swim practice 3:30-5:00 pm
Thursday 4/30 swim practice 3:30-4:30 pm-
Diving League Championships at Wagner. Go Eden!
Friday- May 1– League prelims at Wagner pool- the time got moved to 6 pm.  (They won’t let anyone use the pool earlier than that unless you are swimming for or against El Camino). This means we will not be getting out of school early.  Please be at the pool by 4:30 (no later)-  We will have stretching, team talk, time to put on those tech suits- warm up 5:25 for CAHS. Bring those posters!
Relays will not be swam on Friday- only Saturday.  A relays will ONLY score.  If I decide to make any B relays, it won’t count towards our points, but I may make some B relays to see who went the fastest split and take those four people to CIF in that relay (plus an alternate).
Saturday May 2- 10:00 am at Wagner -The top 6 people in each event (6 boys and 6 girls) will return to swim for points on Saturday.  This is when it counts so it’s imperative this whole week you get rest and even Friday night….Relays will also swim this day and if you are not swimming a relay nor finals, please make some time to come cheer on your team.
For those swimmers who did not qualify for CIF whether in a relay or individually, this is the end of your season and we will celebrate you at the banquet. Yay!
